What are the Advantages of Volunteering?
- Work experience. Blanks on the CV never look very good, at a job interview the employer will often. It sounds better to have done something for the public interest, by comparison travelling .
- Meet new people. The bain of unemployment is the reduced social network that those on limited budgets are forced to move in, which can make finding work harder.
- Additional References. If you’re good the people you work for can provide references for use on future CVs.
The obvious disadvantage is money, when you’re volunteering sooner or later you’re gonna run out. Some more senior positions are salaried, but usually pay less than you’d expect in other sectors.
Generally volunteering affords greater freedom, less stress, and more fun than regular work.
